How To Fix Damaged Hair Extensions

Although many brands claim wigs and hair extensions can be dyed, permed, bleached, highlighted, straightened, or styled as your own hair according to your need, frequent use of hot tools can cause damage to your wigs, even though human hair wigs, unless you use the proper precautions.

Not to mention synthetic extensions will tangle faster and can burn off very easily. Of course, if you have a heat-friendly synthetic wig, you can gently style it with low heat to enhance the current style. But, you can't change the overall style pattern of the hair. For example, you can’t flat iron curly extensions to make them straight, but you can flat iron straight extensions to make them look sleeker. After all, most synthetic extensions are pre-styled, so the texture (wavy, curly, straight, etc.) is permanent and will bounce back after you wash the hair.

Thus, please use a thermal protectant before applying any hot tools, which will create a barrier and prevent your hair from becoming brittle and dry.

In order to fix dry hair extensions, you can choose to do a hot oil treatment on your wigs, which can cure split ends, repair damage, reduce breakage, and make the hair look healthier and shinier. There are usually many options in any beauty supply store, or you can ask your stylist to recommend the best oil for hot oil treatment.

❄ To use the oil, heat it according to the package instructions. In general, it often includes heating it in hot water or in the microwave.

❄ Then massage the oil into the extensions and run a wide-toothed comb through the hair to distribute it evenly.

❄ Next, put on a plastic shower cap and wait for 5-15 minutes to allow the oil to absorb into your hair weaves.

❄ In the end, rinse out the oil with warm water, blot it gently with a towel, and let it air dry.

During the process, be sure to avoid putting the oil directly on the bonded part between your hair and extension. Besides, be careful not to scrunch, scrub or rub the hair.

2. Boiling Water Treatment

The boiling water treatment method is often used to revive dry and damaged human hair extensions.

❄ Simply boil a small pot of water until it’s hot, just not burning hot.

❄ And add a few drops of olive, coconut, or argan oil and add two spoons of hair conditioner.

❄ Then place dry hair extensions into the hot water carefully and leave them in for about 10-15 minutes.

❄ In order to make the conditioner penetrate the cuticle, take a spoon to dunk the extensions under the water so they’re completed submerged.

❄ Again, take out the wet extensions, place them on a towel and gently press the towel against the weave to remove excess water.

❄ Measure some of your favorite leave-in conditioner into the palm of your hands, rub your hands together, and then smooth the condition over the whole weave so that it is evenly distributed.

❄ Hang the hair weaves over a wig stand and let them air dry.

3. LOC Method

LOC is a deep moisturizing process and known as is a simple yet efficient way to hydrate and repair damaged hair extensions. And the letters LOC stand for “Liquid,” “Oil,” and “Cream.”

❄ First of all, you need to wash your hair extensions with warm water, which can better open the cuticle of the hair, allowing nourishing products to permeate and repair damaged hair extensions. You can opt for lightweight leave-in conditioners that are water-based.

❄ Then apply some natural oil to the damaged hair extensions to lock in the moisture, such as olive oil, argan oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, or avocado oil.

❄ Finally, add a creamy moisturizer to seal all the water and nutrients down.

4.Try Not To Wash Your Hair Extensions Too Regularly

Don’t over-wash your hair extensions. That is because washing your hair extensions too frequently will strip away any natural oils faster, causing them to dry out quicker.

If you are a daily hair washer, at the very least you will need to skip a day between washes, but ideally, you would only be washing your hair 2-3 times a week. Or you can use dry shampoo instead of regular shampoo.

How To Repair Frizzy Hair Extensions

It is a great option for you to try a coconut oil hair mask to boost hydration and smooth frizz.

❄ Just need to measure out 2 tablespoons (about 30 ml) of coconut oil and pour it into a bowl along with 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of honey.

❄ Next, stir them together and put the mixture in a spray bottle.

❄ Spray the mixture to the damaged extensions with the mask and wait for about 30 minutes to allow it to soak in.

❄ Finally, rinse your hair with lukewarm water and style it as you normally would.

Is it very easy, right?

❄ In order to keep your human hair bundles soft and tangle-free, spray some moisturized product all over your hair each day and then brush out the hair with a wide-toothed comb or boar-bristle brush. If possible, please brush your hair from the bottom up at least three times a day.

❄ Wrapping your hair up turban-style or rubbing your hair together with a towel after showering can cause a lot of friction and tangling. Instead, gently squeeze the water out of your hair using an old T-shirt or a microfiber towel.

❄ To prevent hair extensions from tangling and breaking, make sure to put your hair in a loose braid or ponytail with a scrunchie, rather than an elastic band before bedtime.

❄ More importantly, it would be better to sleep with a silk pillow not cotton or other materials, which can minimize the amount of friction caused by tossing and turning throughout the night.
