What is Natural Hair Density?
The density of natural hair basically refers to how thick does your hair look or how many hair strands are on your head totally. Hair density treats hair as a whole, it is measured based on the number of strands per square inch on the scalp, or how dense the hair follicles are. There are several signs you can tell your hair density, which is divided into low, medium, and high density hair. For example, if people can’t even see your scalp, you probably have high-density hair.
What is Hair Density in Wigs?
When we talk about hair density in wigs or wig density, it also means how thick or thin the wig is, which can be identified by the amount of hair strands on one wig cap. In order to make the purchase of wigs become more convenient, hair manufacturers produce human hair wigs in a certain density, including 100% density, 120% density, 130% density, 150% density, 180% density, 200% density, and even 250% density. 130% density wigs and 150% density wigs are the most popular wig density.
Low Density Hair vs High Density Hair
Actually, it’s easy to understand, low-density hair has fewer strands per square inch on the head, while high-density hair has more strands per square inch.
Low density means that the amount of your hair strands is lower than the average level, it also means you have thin hair. It’s easy being able to see your scalp, and the circumference of your hair ponytail is the smallest. Low-density hair is usually fine and thin, do not use heavy products that weigh your hair down or decrease the hair density, such as heavy hair oils, creams and thick conditioners. Go with some lightweight products that can create or boost volume.
High-density hair has a higher amount of hair strands per square inch, if it’s difficult to see your scalp, you may have high density or high volume hair. The ideal products for high density hair are based on the purpose of decreasing the volume of hair. Opt for heavy or thick gels, creams, and butter, these are especially working well for curly hair, to reduce the frizz and make them look smooth.
How to Measure Hair Density?
How do you know if you have high or low-density hair? Except for visual inspection, there is a common method for testing your hair density everywhere. However, this method only works when your hair is long enough to put in a ponytail.
1. Comb your hair as much as possible and tie it into a tight ponytail.
2. Use a tape to measure the circumference of your ponytail.
3. If the circumference of your hair is less than 2 inches, your hair density is low, if the circumference is between 2 and 3 inches, your hair density is medium, if the circumference is more than 4 inches, your hair density is high. The thickness of each hair strand will also affect the circumference of your ponytail.
